Adrienne Blouse

Hello Internet Friends!

I’ve been in a bit of a sewing slump for most of January but in the last week or so my sewjo has come back! Today I’m sharing one of my post slump makes, the Adrienne Blouse by Friday Pattern Co. This pattern was a great sewjo slump breaker given how quickly you can cut and sew it up!

With only 3 pattern pieces I was able to cut this pattern in a spare 30 min that I had with some stashed repurposed, grey french terry from Our Social Fabrics. I cut a straight large size with no modifications (a rare thing for a short gal like me!), I decided that since I would most often be tucking the top in it I didn’t need to worry about it being a big long. Here I’m pairing the blouse with my all time sewing faves, the mid rise ginger jean.

I really liked the construction of this top, you attach the front and back neck bands prior to making a channel in the sleeves for the elastic which allows you to line everything up nicely. This method also makes it easy to test the length of the arm elastics which I really appreciated as I needed to shorten the length by about 0.5” to prevent the sleeves from falling off of my shoulders. In total it took me about an hour to sew up this top start to finish making it a very quick and satisfying sew!

I’m really glad I chose a bit of a thicker knit fabric with this grey french terry, the snug fit of the body of the blouse means that any seams from undergarments will show through if the knit isn’t thick enough. I have to admit that I was pretty self conscious about wearing this top for the first time since I’ve been feeling a bit ‘out of shape’ over the last few months. BUT I absolutely love the sleeves on this blouse (I’m feeling dramatic sleeves lately) so I’m hoping that the fun sleeves will convince me to wear this blouse more despite any self conscious reservations. The fluffyblondemonster was making me laugh as we took these photos to help me get over my self consciousness. If you have any tips for getting over your internal critic when you’re wearing your me mades let me know in the comments!

Hope you guys enjoyed this fun and fast blouse! Fingers crossed for some sunny weather so that I can photograph some of my other recent sewing projects!
