Linen Zadie Jumpsuit

Hello internet friends!

It’s been a bit quiet on the blog for a few weeks, I had a really stressful Jan/Feb but things are on the up and up! I landed myself a brand new job and was able to take some time off between positions to take myself on a little vacay to the sunny island of Bali for a 1 week retreat! And what’s a vacation without pre-vacation sewing am I right? So this is the first of 3 posts about some of the pre-retreat sewing that I did.

First up is a linen Zadie jumpsuit by Paper Theory Patterns. Guys I LOOVVE this colour, Sepia Rose, from Blackbird Fabrics and I am really glad that I was able to snag 2 meters before it sold out! This washed linen softens beautifully after machine washing and is so so so comfy to wear. I didn’t quite have enough of the linen to cut all of the pattern pieces so I used some left over viscose twill for the pockets and made a pocket facing with the linen, a handy trick when running low on fabric.

It may seem strange to sew something with full length pants for a trip to Bali but I knew that I would need to have at least a full length dress to wear for temple visits. I decided that rather than making another maxi dress I would rather have a full length jumpsuit that I could also use for work. By using super breathable linen I knew that this would be the perfect outfit for Bali temple visits. (Side note, the temple I am at is Tana Lot which is a beautiful set of two temples by the ocean, since these are religious sites for the Balinese people I’ve only taken pictures at the semi designated picture areas and not at the temples themselves, the rice on my forehead in most of the pictures is from the blessing received by washing with water from the temple and making a small donation :D)

Luckily for me, since I’m so short, I didn’t have to lengthen the pants at all, I simply cut the pants as is since it was originally drafted to be capri length on a normally sized adult human. I cut a straight size 12 and the only modification was to shorten the bodice by 1/2” since I found that necessary with my last Zadie (which I just realized I never posted…) I plan on adding a small snap to the inside of the wrap to help keep everything closed for this version but in future versions I think I may do a petite bust length adjustment to bring up the front of the bodice a bit so that the plunge isn’t so low and there isn’t any gapping.

I got a number of compliments on this outfit when I wore it out in Bali, and I’m really excited to incorporate it into my wardrobe this spring/summer ! The Zadie is one of those patterns that just looks great on so many people and is seriously comfy to wear especially in something like this linen.  Stay tuned for the next two posts from my Bali trip!
